  • nestoloco says:

I have the HTC Hero from sprint. It’s overclocked which makes it almost as fast as an IPOD touch. But the phone in the video is incredibly fast.

Thanks for the civilized replies – a rare thing on youtube. Most of the people here would assume i’m an apple troll, which i am not.

But still, closing the Market is like Ubuntu letting everybody download their OS but just Dell use Synaptic. You still get a good OS with a pretty user interface, but to install anything you need to dig hours on the net. It’s just stupid.

And if it’s the people in marketing to blame, that’s not an excuse. If you leave them in charge of an OS, you just get Vista.

  • Uejji says:

I agree with you that integrating Market into AOSP (or at least making it a free .apk download from Google if they don’t want to opensource it) would be a great move. However since at this time it’s not, presuming that Market is always present on the phone is bad programming by the developer.

That would be like if I wrote a program on Windows that calls in winword.exe for some task and then crashes if it’s not present. “Well most Windows computers have Word.” Probably, but not all of them.

  • andreibuze says:

And second (separated because char count): Most developers already threat Market as part of the OS. I have some apps installed from (legaly downloaded) .apk’s or from AndAppStore that try to load Market to update or check for updates, and crash.

I know about alternatives to Android Market, i have 3 installed on my phone. But there are two reasons i’m upset about Market not beeing installable on any phone:

    - I simply can not understand why Google won’t any user have access to something they already give away for free. I understand they don’t want to let any manufacturers stick a “Google” logo on any headset, but why not make it downloadable for the user?

  • Uejji says:

I understand where you’re coming from — however, Android is a bit more complex than that. “Android Market” is not part of Android, but rather it is Google’s market for its licensed Android devices.

There are some alternate markets available. Apparently SlideME is pretty popular in the Android homebrew community.

Regardless, however, Android is a Linux-based operating system for mobile devices. All the extra perks on the Google licensed devices are extra bits licensed to us.

you people (Europeans and Americans) are living in such an over priced world…
In PK we can have an unlimited internet option for just 400 PKR and thats $4.78698 or u can round it to $5 a month….wow this is sooo cheap…!!!

  • andreibuze says:

Great stuff. Too bad they are not talking about Android, but about the Android phones that Google likes. If you have any other Android phone – too bad. You can’t use any google apps, and the worst thing is, you can’t even access Android Market. Google made Android “open” and then closed the market. Way to go.

Android is an Operating System, it’s preinstalled on the phone, you just have to buy a phone with Android OS.
The different applications might not work everywhere and you need internet on your cell phone to use them.
The barcode application I believe will also work in Europe. It recognized the UPC (American Barcode Standard) as a UPC, so I guess it can distinguish different barcodes, including the European EAN which would be relevant to you

  • khaled1333 says:

Dose that Android thing works only in the US and Canada?
